Joel & Scotts Top 50 Remixes 2010

More links at the bottom! ///

Ok, so we’ve got some remixes here! I have to say, I haven’t been blown away by a lot of remixes this year. A handful have been on repeat but most others have just lasted a few listens. Anyway, RAC is back in full effect, basically dropping pure gold. Don Diablo is doing his thing, turning so-so tracks into epicness. The Soundmen are back with another super-infectious remix. The Hood Internet (and Jay-Z??) are dominating the little Mashup section at the bottom. Some familiar names, some fresh faces, all great jams. I’m going to leave these without comments for now because frankly, they don’t need them and I want to get this list out in time for Friday night! Rock on! Read more

The 25 Best Songs of 2010… So Far (Jan-June)

As I’ve been compiling this best songs list I’ve been thinking a lot about what it means to be a great track. Last year I went by play counts to determine what songs I “loved” the most but this year I noticed that the list that came out didn’t really match my perception of my favorites. A lot of my top played songs this year are indeed great songs, but they also happen to be on a great album so they get played by themselves as well as in the course of the album. So I got to thinking about which are the tracks that I seek out, that I crave, that I have to hear every night before bed or every morning to wake up. Those are the songs that make up this list. Songs that for whatever reason hooked me to the point where I need(ed) them in my life this year. Those great albums (and their highlight jams) will get their moment but for now we celebrate the song, or as Read more

MIIKE SNOW finally hint at what THE RABBIT in their logo means

i tried to beat the devil too many times, i’m in love, she is tragic magic

♫ Miike Snow – The Rabbit (Stuart Price Mix)

I do my best to keep up with all the new jams coming out but even I miss some things, even when they come from one of my favorite bands. So big ups to reader Maunik for giving me the heads up on this new Miike Snow track!! This new jam comes packaged with an awesome video (Below. Seriously, watch this. Then you will understand that album art that I whipped up for this post) and is part of the deluxe re-release of one of the best albums of last year. As stoked as I am to get a new Miike jam, it’s not their best work. “The Rabbit” is definitely better than most music around and is still rocking my socks but it needs more of that spacey twitchy-glitchy knob twiddling that make their tracks so unique. (see “Cult Logic” and “Billie Holiday” for prime examples) We get a little here and there but I want more! I’m not sure what Stuart Price Mix means in this context. Is this the final version of a track that was mixed by him or his remix of an original version we have yet to hear? Either way, I’m still pumped to have another good Miike jam and another great Miike video!

UPDATE: So I did some digging and this is indeed a Stuart Price RE-mix. I couldn’t find an mp3 of the original but you can listen to a snippet here.

Time is tight and I’m late for a date with with the sandman so I’m gonna forgo my usual ramblings for an edited version. I’ve arranged these in a loose order of great to merely relevant so use that as a guide. Or just cherry pick. Whatevs.  If enough people miss my personal notes then I can bring ’em back but if not then frankly I could use the extra time. Word.
