10 Reasons Why Lighting In A Bottle is The Festival to Be At This Year

Blah blah blah Coachella. Thats all anyone can talk about this time of year but frankly that festival is not for everyone… In looking for an alternative to 3 days walking the desert runway (and 3 weeks fishing dust out of my nose) I saw that Lightning In A Bottle has a killer lineup this year. The festival takes place on a forest and by a lake. That is exactly the kind of setting I want for my music festivals! Keep your sand storms! I’m climbing tree, going swimming, and laying  in the shade while listening to these rad bands that you wont find is the dustbowl of Indio this weekend…

1. Moby

Call him a legacy act if you have to but besides being one of the finest (and biggest) acts of the 90s, Moby is still kicking out jams. And unlike the unfortunate Fatboy Slim set at Coachella, I bet you he wont be pandering to contemporary EDM trash with his set.

2. Phantogram

Now this is a festival band! Big sound and perfect for rocking out with hundreds of strangers who all know the words!

3. Gold Panda

Festivals are all about getting a bit weird and Gold Panda is the perfect soundtrack to any adventure deep into the forest/mind/someone else’s tent…

4. The Polish Ambassador

All the music this killer beat-smith releases is available for “name your price” which means he wont break your bank when you fall in love with his jams and need all him music after the fest.

5. Ryan Hemsworth

Time for another trip…

6. Chet Faker

Soulful and oh so damn sexual. Chet Faker is probably my favorite voice these days. Also best beard. I’m looking forward to catching both live.

7. Kraak & Smaak

8. Marley Carroll

You have no idea how excited I am for Marley Carroll! These two jams below are enough that he should be top of the bill yet somehow he hasn’t blown up yet. So damn groovy and addictive!

9. Story Of The Running Wolf

A lot of people like to enjoy mind altering substances at festivals but you may want to keep your dosage low before watching Story Of The Running Wolf perform… Just a heads up…

10. Slow Magic

Watching this music lie in a forrest will either be totally cool or totally haunting but either way its gonna feel crazy.

If that linuep doesn’t get you jazzed then check out the full lineup here! Even more awesomeness like Little Dragon and The Gaslamp Killer.

[REMIX] Moby – “The Right Thing” (Kleerup Remix)

lights flying ‘cross my eyes, oh it seems like this could be mine

♫ Moby – The Right Thing (Kleerup Remix)

We all do something right. Moby does soulful and sultry vocal samples over dance beats right. Kleerup lays spaced out elastic grooves right. So do your ears right and wrap them in this electric blanket of a jam. Used correctly it could keep you warm until spring.

[MP3] Moby – “The Poison Tree”

my sweet love has gone away, my sweet love has gone today

♫ Moby – The Poison Tree

Even though I was at a press conference for Moby and his new album/photo-book Destroyed back in June, I never sought out the disc. I’d kinda assumed Moby had done fell off. Then I heard “The Poison Tree” and was reminded how good the guy can be with a soul/gospel sample. It’s like 2000 all over again! “The Poison Tree” is on the 3-disc deluxe edition of Destroyed which you can pre-order now. Stream the normal version below. Read more

Remix Roundup Vol. 43 – 4.29.2011 [LYKKE LI, MOBY, FOSTER THE PEOPLE, THE KLAXONS and more… ]

If you are an avid TBE follower you may have noticed we have had some hackers on our site lately.  So, we thought we would let you know we’ve hired some robot ninjas to judo chop the shit out if them.  Oh, you didn’t hear?  Malware Ninjas to the funking rescue!  They have laser beams, flying baby space saucers (just like the movie Battery), boob guns, and really… anything your imaginative mind could ever muster. They are now here to stay and solve any issue TBE may ever encounter.  For now, in this thing we call “the mean time”, enjoy our latest edition of our Remix Roundups.  Annnnd, by the wayss, we are experimenting with some new graphics from our local Austin friend Danielle Villarreal.

TBE Exclusive! /// DJ Bouji and the ‘Just Quit’ Mix

djbouji_logodo you enjoy what you do? if not, don’t stop, don’t say shit

♫ Trackademicks vs. Sammy Bananas – Enjoy What You Do (Bouji Mash N Slash)

Just when you thought you weren’t going to be getting an exclusive mixtape to jam to all weekend, BAM, here it is! Surprises are fun as hell, but not nearly as fun as this buttery smooth funk-fest that L.A.’s own DJ Bouji has served up for us. I have seen this guy spin a few times and he always lights it up with his flow. His Just Quit mix is no different as he mixes genres, decades, and styles into one big party anthem. If you have been listening to his Mash N Slash of Sammy Bananas remix of Trackademicks “Enjoy What You Do” then you know what’s up. If you check out the tracklist after the jump you’ll see Miike Snow rolled into Peter Gabriel and Kings Of Leon paving the way for The Outfield. I love it. Download the whole thing below and have a kick ass weekend.
