[2,000th POST!] Remix Roundup RETURN – Vol. 68

Holy cow. 2,000 is a big number. And I know some of you have read/listened to all of them. Thank you guys for the endless support and for giving me a reason to listen to so much crap to find the jams. In celebration of this historic milestone I will be bringing back the Remix Roundups. Sure, a remix may still get its own post from time to time but generally they will be bundled up here as a little party playlist for the weekend or a vacation for your ears while your body slaves at work/school.

This week we have recent TBE fave Noah Hyde remixing a new discovery Wake Owl. 2012 heavy hitter Cyril Hahn funks up that new Haim joint. The Penguin Prison remix of “It’s Time” wont ever be beat but Plastic People give it a solid rework. My beloved Monarchy are finally back! It’s just this Mighty Mouse remix for now but I’m pretty damn excited for more. Atlas Genius get reworked by soon-to-be-covered Wild Cub who in turn get tropical-ized by Kisses. Then Erol Sabadosh takes us from new school Rihanna to old school R. Kelly with some golden Top 40 remixes. Freak funk genie Yalls scuffs up Rhye nicely and a Passion Pit remix by newbie Dream Logic closes us out. Enjoy!

Remix Party Playlist Vol. 62 – 3.30.2012 [Housse De Racket, Foo Fighters, Martin Solveig, The Shoes, and more…]

Its Friday and this is how we do it.  Don’t know about you, but I just got my coffee game on and Im feeling that caffeine high right about now.  Powered right through that 2:30 wall like it was blue cotton-candy.  And I love that shite.  Just marf’n on it.  Anyway, enough of this noise.  Lets be honest, you’re here for the chuneage.

For more jams or by any of these artists use the ‘tags’ links at the bottom of the post!  Follow @JoelAlbers on Twitter for updates on remixes, dubstep and all things Nurdy.

♫ Foster The People – Don’t Stop (Color On The Walls) (Futurecop! Remix) / Futurecop! are back to making my body move in diabolical fashion…  So uncontrollable.

♫ Housse De Racket – Chateau (Gemini Club Remix) / We at TBE have always been fans of Gemini Club, but they have been on a glitchy roll lately.  Maybe it has something to do with playing our SXSW showcase… Read more

The 20 Best ALBUMS of 2011

We all know I hate Best of Lists that come out before the year is over so nearly 4 weeks into 2012 I finally present my best albums of 2011! (Still a day faster than last year!) Below are the top 10 albums from my 2011 followed by 10 honorable mentions. The list was compiled by weighing total play counts along with longevity. Not only did I Read more

[LP] Penguin Prison – PENGUIN PRISON (w/ every Penguin Prison track TBE has ever posted)

i got a car that i call jenny, i take her out when there’s too much noise in my head

♫ Penguin Prison – A Funny Thing [from 2009]

♫ Penguin Prison – The Worse It Gets [from 2010]

The October 18th release of Penguin Prison’s self-titled debut is interesting for a couple reasons. The first thing is that I didn’t know it came out until 6 weeks late. And I think the second thing is directly tied to the 1st. Penguin Prison has been around so long that it seems hard to believe that his album hasn’t been out for years! TBE has been posting singles from the album since 2009 (above) and that doesn’t even include “Something I’m Not” and “Fair Warning” which also came out as singles before the album came out. Add on the heavily remixed “Multimillionaire” and new single “Don’t Fuck With My Money” and Read more

[LP] Monarchy – MONARCHY / AROUND THE SUN (w/ “Gold In The Fire”)

let’s paint you picture perfect, run around in the rain, building a magic castle, escape on our aeroplane

♫ Monarchy – Gold In The Fire

Weightless. Floating. Deep space breathing on your neck as a faint beat builds in the blackness. Suddenly the stars brighten and the sky is alive with lights as the planets swirl on the infinite horizon. That is kinda what it’s like to listen to “Gold In The Fire,” my latest favorite track off of Monarchy’s debut album. Well, that may not exactly be accurate…

Monarchy have not been an easy band to follow since debuting under a shroud of mystery nearly 2 years ago.Their debut self-titled album was slated for release last year (and possibly even was since I somehow have a copy of it) but they have since retreated to the drawing board, re-tooling the album and recently releasing under the name Around The Sun. The only difference I can tell is the addition of the track “I Won’t Let Go” which I am not going to argue with at all. The British due certainly went more polished and pop since their early demos but I feel like they have done it well. Like if Hurts were launched into space in a disco ball or something. Early attention grabbers like “Black, The Color of My Heart,” “The Phoenix Alive,” and “Love Get Out Of My Way” are all great, but album closer “Travelling By Ambulance” is a slow burn show stopper that deserves special mention. Get yourself some Monarchy, in whatever form you can, and catch them live as I hear that is a rarified treat.
