[MP3] Primary 1 – “Ready For The Good Life”

take me out, make me cry, shout it out

♫ Primary 1 – Ready For The Good Life

We all know and love Primary 1 from his own tracks as well as his guest spots and lucky for us the London artist is back with another project called Amateur Best. Well, project may be a misleading word, it is a comic book series to be exact. Every month Amateur Best will release a new issue that will come with a track to accompany the reading.

The comic tells the story of James Best- latent alcoholic, sometime London based DJ and lifelong amateur. Over the months that follow you can follow his misadventures through the mad old city he lives in.

Issue 1 is out now and “Ready For The Good Life” is the free track that accompanied it. As a former comic geek I couldn’t be more pleased with the merging of the two. I always love seeing a talented artist spreading their wings. And if the music is this good then even non-comic-geeks can’t argue!

[LP] THE SHOES have apparently not been WASTIN’ any TIME

you know the hounds won’t wait for no one, but i, i waited my life for you

♫ The Shoes – Wastin’ Time The Shoes finally released an album!! These guys have been showing on remix radars for years now, finally releasing their own “People Movin” with Primary 1 back in 2009. Luckily the patient wait for these Frenchmen to get their act together (and recruit a host of fantastic guests like Esser and CocknBullKid) has been totally worth it. Crack My Bones is 10 songs of solid booty shaking gold, providing enough variety to get everyone grooving at some point or another. Nothing sounds half-assed and the album feels like it’s been crafted with a passion for moving people. But it’s not just limbs these guys move, they can get tender too. “Wastin’ Time” is a great example of the delicate touch these dudes have. Propulsive yet airy. It’s filled with energy but not overwhelming. It’s gorgeous. But just as you’ve been lulled into it’s hypnotic trance, The Shoes follow it up with the aptly titled pump-up “Time To Dance.” I mean let’s not forget what Fridays are all about people!

I’m not going to get into the album too much cause you can stream the whole thing here and discover your own favorite track. I will say that you should definitely make it through the whole album because closer and total sonic adventure “Investigator” does all 9 minutes of itself total justice.

BONUS: ♫ The Shoes – New York ft Boy Crisis (non-album track)

Here is a non-album single they let loose last year with the guys from Boy Crisis. Listen close and you’ll remember that yes, that’s the same band that features one half of Das Racist. I feel like this track needs a summer evening and a massive D-battery-powered boombox to do it right!

PRIMARY 1 has the got THE song for for a sky filled with BLUES

when i get old i’m gonna be bold, i’m gonna take hold

♫ Primary 1 – The Blues ft. Nina Persson

We’ve heard Primary 1’s contributions to tracks with The Shoes and Riton but the Brit is finally taking the helm on his solo stufft. Primary 1 (a.k.a. Joe Flory) has been toiling away as an underground producer for sometime now and it looks to be paying off wih a forthcoming major label debut for Alantic. The first taste of that album is the luscious “The Blues” with everybody’s favorite “Lovefool” Nina Persson. This jam is journey of chugging guitar and drums riding through a landscape of beautiful bleeps and horns. Seems pretty much perfect for holding hands with your lover as you watch the wold go by from the window of a speeding train. If that train ride is going to last more than 6 minutes I suggest you grab a copy of Primary 1’s free demo album, Mess Detective (See the album art above, all hand illustrated versions of old cassettes. Sweetness.) It’s much looser and more jazzy than “The Blues,” or anything we should expect on his LP, but is nonetheless filled with all sorts of funky tracks that showcase Primary 1’s talent for toying with sound. The opening track, “Foaming,” is one of the more straightforward jams but don’t stop there, grab the whole thing for FREE here. And check out an interesting interview Pitchfork did with him.

RITON & PRIMARY 1 have a jam that RADIATES good times so much that it doesn’t matter WHO’S THERE to dance with

see you when the world falls

♫ Riton & Primary 1 – Radiates

We heard Primary 1 team up with The Shoes a few weeks ago but his main collaborator of late has been Riton. They dropped “Who’s There” this summer (as TBE TV followers will know) and “Radiates” just recently came on the scene. I don’t know too much about the men behind these bangers but I do know that these are two beats I would like to hear dropped tonight. I just dig the way Riton does his thang, all those unique sounds and everything a bit elastic and bouncy. And who doesn’t want to belt out “AhhhOOOOOO’s there?” every time it comes up!?

THE SHOES are PEOPLE who have been MOVIN and shakin

The Shoes People Movin

so take the best and make it good for you

♫ The Shoes – People Movin Ft. Primary 1

France’s The Shoes have been whipping up fresh remixes for a while now, but they are finally dropping some of their own tunes on us. Not ones to jump straight to the deep end they are letting up-n-coming UK rapper Primary 1 be their pool buddy. Aquatic analogies are no coincidence here. This is music for straight lounging poolside and watching the freakshow parade by. Their People Movin EP is out now so get on that, as well as the jams below. That Mystery Jets remix is one of my faves from 2008 and their collabo with 80 Kidz was slated for a TBE post a few months back but just never made it I guess. Busy times.
