Well, its finally here! The full album download of The Burning Ear’s 5 Year Anniversary Album! A big thank to you all the bands that made such amazing jams for this project. It is a hug honor to have my name stamped on the cover of this but the real props go to the musicians. You all killed it!

Wiley Webb flips things on their head. His remix of Katy Perry’s “Roar” was fearless, turning the formulaic chart topper into a spastic body mover that has been in every DJ set I’ve played all year. Rhye’s 2012 slow burner “Open” is a bit more sacred than “Roar” but Wiley handled it beautifully, adding just enough glitch and haunting groove to give the song a fresh dimension. Wiley calls this remix “even slower, even more sensual, darker, sexier, with more tease, more quiet, more moments of silence, more breath, more sighs, eyes closed, curves, shadows, touch.” I couldn’t agree more.

This is just a teaser to get you all as excited as I am. To celebrate the 5th birthday of The Burning Ear I’m putting together an album of exclusive remixes of covers of the best TBE jams of the past 5 years. Contributing artists like Pr0files, Noah Hyde, Lincoln Jesser, Y Luv, Wiley Webb, Memoryy, Germany Germany, and more will be remixing or covering songs by Miike Snow, Twin Shadow, Scavenger Hunt, Yeasayer, Phosphorescent, Rhye, Frank Ocean, and more.
The list goes one and makes my heart skip a beat every time I read it. And dont even get me started on heart skips when I LISTEN to these jams. Holy cow. You guys are in for a treat.
AND THEN, there is the epic album artwork above created by the amazing Meghan Ellie Smith. I’m basically a mess of excitement over here.

Holy cow. 2,000 is a big number. And I know some of you have read/listened to all of them. Thank you guys for the endless support and for giving me a reason to listen to so much crap to find the jams. In celebration of this historic milestone I will be bringing back the Remix Roundups. Sure, a remix may still get its own post from time to time but generally they will be bundled up here as a little party playlist for the weekend or a vacation for your ears while your body slaves at work/school.
This week we have recent TBE fave Noah Hyde remixing a new discovery Wake Owl. 2012 heavy hitter Cyril Hahn funks up that new Haim joint. The Penguin Prison remix of “It’s Time” wont ever be beat but Plastic People give it a solid rework. My beloved Monarchy are finally back! It’s just this Mighty Mouse remix for now but I’m pretty damn excited for more. Atlas Genius get reworked by soon-to-be-covered Wild Cub who in turn get tropical-ized by Kisses. Then Erol Sabadosh takes us from new school Rihanna to old school R. Kelly with some golden Top 40 remixes. Freak funk genie Yalls scuffs up Rhye nicely and a Passion Pit remix by newbie Dream Logic closes us out. Enjoy!

New Rhye song. Sure, it comes unaccompanied by an EP or album release but it does come with one of the finest music videos we’ve seen in a long time. Since their last video, perhaps. It all makes me so happy to know that Rhye is making music. Buy it now.
Lets not talk about the fact this year is already half over. Thats just insane. About as insane as the quality of jams that have been pumping through TBE HQ’s speakers these past 6 months. Here is the best of the best. Did I miss any? Did you miss any?
