now it’s all you to man up you see no way to hang on what you say
Some tracks don’t deliver but the ones that do bang hard. Gems are “Go” “Keepers” & obvs “Disparate Youth.” I’m glad she’s back for summer.
[Quickies are mini-reviews that can fit into a 140 character tweet. They are of albums that people already know of but perhaps are curious about our take on it. What did you think of the disc?]

Why: The Hood Internet are the gold standard in indie/rap mashups but the Burning Ear hasn’t featured a new jam of theirs since Christmas 2010. I was beginning to think they done fell off.
Then they dropped Volume Six of their mixtape series and all worry was washed away by the most seamless collection of genius mashup choices this year. Just scroll through the tracklist here to see what I mean. From the unexpected (Wiz + Phantogram, Mayer Hawthorne + M83, Tyga + Neon Indian) to the predictably balanced (Whitney + Chromeo, Ma$e + Notorious B.I.G. + Penguin Prison) The Hood Internet live up to that album art of deftly concocting dance party magic.

How good is it to have a sweet Santi jam kickin into warmer weather!? What is this, 2009? Yes! I’m not really sure what is happening in the video but I’d like to think that its just showing us what she’s been up to the past few years. Riding motorbikes and getting her mind expanded by white eyed kids.
Alright our fellow face melters, its about time for us @ TBE to drop that Dub Top 10 list on you.
So, 2010 was a huge year for the genre dubstep right? We (Joel & Scott) were recently thinking, we haven’t seen a new genre completely change the music landscape like this since grunge-rock in the early 90’s. Given that we love getting Nurdy as hell everywhere we go, we like where this is going.. Back to the list… While, this is the list we settled on, our top 5 could have been easily ordered in any way like bobbin for apples. Anyway, we’re not going to lie people, we would love to sit here and explain our list to you, but its Friday night and we’re feeling its about time to get going on that crunk juice.

TBE knows you’ve been salivating for that womp, womp, wobble. So, here we go again, Joel & Scott, back to provide you your fix with Dubstep Roundup Volume 4.
Call us your local “Dub Dealerâ€, and yeah we’ve got some of that wobbly, wobbly shit.
“One two three and to the four, Joel and ScottyP is at the door, ready to make an entrance so back on up, cause you know we bout to BASS shit up”

Fiend no more friends and by all means enjoy your weekend!

These Digest’s are tough to do because there are really only two emotions I feel while writing them: disappointment and bewilderment. The former for bands I love that are delivering sub-par baloney and the latter for bands other people love who are delivering sub-par baloney. These opinions are of course only my own and that’s why I persist with this series, because others may be really into these tracks and that is great. Different strokes, ya know. On the other hand, some may just be curious as to what different bands are up to these days. Read it for any reason you want, but know that I write it out of a simple desire to pass along the recent happenings in my musical world that I don’t feel are worthy of their own post. (There seemed to have been some confusion last time) Anyway, read on, trudge through, wade in, sally forth, whatever, just know that this edition is exceptionally long for whatever reason but there are some fun covers awaiting you at the end.
If you have never seen Santigold before, don’t worry, that’s not her. That is my main goblin Lil’ Wayne lookin as sexy/blazed as ever. Santigold, however, was at the Hollywood Bowl on Sunday night and not-coincidentally, so was I. Was her set awesome? Well, let’s just say she opened with her part from Major Lazer’s “Hold The Line” and it was fire and heat from there. Good thing Terry Urban made this Santi-basd mixtape to make a segue into something relevant… Terry Urban is no noob to the mixtape game and it shows in this seamless mashup of Santi’s debut and Terry’s favorite rappers from the dirty-dirty. There has been some controversy about the mix but who cares about that? Download the full mixtape below or sample here. Andre 3000 is apparently always genius and Rick Ross is apparenty always hustin’ so start there for some raw nasty.
You know we love Basement Jaxx, now hear Santigold rip her shizzle on this new ska-tinged Basement Jamm from their upcoming Scars. This is not better than “Raindrops,” “Hold The Line” or even “Gifted” but it’s still fun.
