[LIVE] Two Door Cinema Club, Friends, St. Lucia @ The Palladium 10.25.12

♫ St. Lucia – We Got It Wrong

Thursday night at The Palladium was awesome. Three distinctly different acts yet three distinctly great sets. First to the stage was the ever so atmospheric St. Lucia lead by front man Jean-Philip Grobler. This was by far the biggest venue I’ve ever seen St. Lucia perform in yet there wasn’t an inch of space in the place that the their dreamy jams didn’t reach. From the opening piano note on “Before The Dive” to the outro chants on their new single “September”, St. Lucia was on point. While Read more

[VIDEO] Haerts – “Wings”

Despite their challenged spelling, Haerts are kinda blowing up right now and its no surprise why. The possibly German mystery duo is produced by TBE fave St. Lucia and “Wings” is a soaring indie-pop summer jam that rides some pretty epic vocals. And then there is hilariously creepy video to throw the whole thing for a loop. PLAY SAFE this Halloween! And grab the track for free at their Facebook.

[EP] St. Lucia – ST. LUCIA (w/ “We Got It Wrong”)

your heart, open, under the stairs, it was simple enough

♫ St. Lucia – We Got It Wrong (Original Version) // mp3

  • Who: Jean-Philip Grobler & friends
  • What: Tropical dance rock, like Friendly Fires, Polarsets, Tanlines
  • Where: New York, NY + Facebook
  • When: The self-titled EP is out now.
  • Why: Originally from Johannesburg, South Africa, Grobler has a rich history with both music and travel that you can hear spilling through his songs as St. Lucia. Lush, emotional, and tightly produced, St Lucia songs are love songs for summer sunsets and sunshine romance. It’s impossible not to get swept up in the momentum of an 80s inspired chant-along like “We Got It Wrong.” The whole EP is packed with these infectious moments that keep me coming back to this EP over and over this summer. While I was first turned on to St. Lucia by Viceroy’s “Closer Than This” remix, I’m realizing that he has some pretty stellar source material to work with.

La Roux – I’m Not Your Toy (Data Remix)  / Not a new tune by any means, but what a chune it is… How this song somehow slipped through the Lights & Music cracks blows my mind.  Without further ado, enjoy.

[INTERVIEW + VICEROY ROUNDUP] Its Summer Time with Viceroy

The other night I was up as late as usual, when it came to me.  The thought, “where is the sun in this cloudy city”.  The city I’m referring to is Seattle, a city blessed with more than its share of rain.  It was at this moment I feverishly signed onto Soundcloud to tried to fill the that sunny void in my life.  Enter Viceroy.

Joel: Being from the Seattle area we don’t get a whole lot of sun, so most of the time we have to live vicariously through other people or in my case, music. You seem to have a unique style of production that fits this picturesque image of mine. An image of beaches, pools, fruity drinks, good vibes and most importantly…. loads of women. I know you don’t live in Vegas, so what inspires this style of music for you?

Viceroy: I think my best experiences through-out life always happened in the summer. The summer is something everyone looks forward to and growing up I couldn’t get enough of it. I also find my style of music aka “summer music” to be a style that can be played in all different kinds of settings with all kinds of people. Its multi-functional in that sense, plus who doesn’t love a feel good track? I wasn’t always into feel good music, but when I first explored edm, nu-disco was introduced to me immediately and I fell in love with it.

Joel: Viceroy is an interesting moniker, its more than a dj name, its a ruler of sorts. Can you tell us a little about what Viceroy means to you and your music? Side note: Did you know that Christopher Columbus desperately wanted to be the Viceroy of all discovered lands?

[REMIX] St Lucia – “Closer Than This (Viceroy Remix)”

and we’ll keep on pushing

♫ St Lucia – Closer Than This (Viceroy Remix)

Alright! Ok, I’ve heard enough buzz (and remixes!) about New York’s St. Lucia that I will have to finally check out his original material. Just let me finish this Viceroy remix. And this cocktail. And splashing the waves like a child after a heavily syruped snowcone un a summer day.

♫ KO KO – Float (Sound Remedy Remix) / When I first listened to this gem of a tune, I new I found my weekend remedy.  Cheers to Sound Remedy.

♫ Dragonette – Let It Go (Faustix & Imanos Remix) / It blows my mind that Dragonette isn’t one of Canada’s most popular bands.  I really think that this original song plus the remixes will move them firmly into that bracket.  This particular remix is a 4-on-the-floor dance floor thumper.  I like.
