[SXSW INTERVIEW] Goldroom on collaboration, friendship, and growing up on a boat

Besides being one of the best sources of excellent music in recent years, Goldroom pretty much perfectly embodies the California Limited spirit of living our dreams under the sun. We hung out for Breakfast tacos on the Saturday morning of SXSW (ouch) and talked about his time spent on a boat as a kid, the move from the East Coast to his new home in Los Angeles, and making music with his friends.

[SXSW INTERVIEW] Gemini Club talk about 6th gear, San Francisco, and trying to be on time…

Gemini Club have been one of our favorite bands (and friends) since they killed it at The Burning Ear SXSW showcase 2 years ago. So we celebrated our anniversary with some breakfast tacos and tales from the road. Enjoy. We sure did.

[MP3] Wildcat! Wildcat! – “Please and Thank You”

Wildcat! Wildcat! - Please and Thank You

it’s only in your mind

♫ Wildcat! Wildcat! – Please and Thank You

Speaking of “wild“,  the world finally has a recorded version of the TBE hometown faves Wildcat! Wildcat! track I’ve loved live at least 4 times now. In this age of gimmie-now internet life its crazy to ever not be able to have my hands on a song I love. Well, the whiny 6 year old in me is finally satisfied. I sit in the corner, gummi bears in hand, loudly “oooh oooh”ing along and looking forward to seeing it again tonight with Passion Pit.

[MP3] Wildlife Control – “Ages Places”

Wildlife Control - Ages Placesnot so much older but the weight on my shoulders, i feel like a vampire who’s been through the ages

If you know Brooklyn’s Wildlife Control for their TBE fave jam “Analog or Digital” then you’ll need to shift down a few gears for this smoldering slow(er) track. Like an ember in the Austin wind this one starts with a flicker before catching some air and igniting into full flame. Catch the firestorm live this Friday at midnight at SXSW for the CD Baby showcase. TBE faves Letting Up Despite Great Faults are also playing plus I’ll be DJing between sets so expect back-2back good times!

[MP3] Black Taxi – “Tightrope”

so i tried to go hide but was kidnapped by carnies when i accepted their ride

♫ Black Taxi – Tightrope

  • Who: Ezra, Bill, Krisana, & Jason.
  • What:  Rockin “Grit pop,” like Mother Mother, Bronze, I Am In Love
  • Where: Brooklyn, NY + Facebook / Bandcamp / Amazon
  • When: 2nd LP We Don’t Know Any Better is out now.
  • Why: There are a handful of undisputed facts from our TBE parties at SXSW this year and one of them is that Black Taxi dominated day 1. These 4 dudes took The Firehouse by storm, mounting the bar like cheap trike and riding the room rough and dirty. Yes, we hurt after, and yes, we wanted more. Thats all I’ll say for now as I’m sure I’ll be back with more words on their latest album as soon as its finished downloading (legally, from eMusic). In the meantime grab a few jams or just go big you pansy. Also catch their fun interview in their “luxurious” tour van.

[MP3/REMIX] OnCue – “Rich Kid” & “Feel Tall (The Soundmen remix)”

best believe that i’m dyin’ one

♫ OnCue – Rich Kid (prod. by Brenton Duvall & CJ Luzi)

  • Who: A dude and his producers.
  • What: Rocking hip-hop, like Chiddy Bang, Wale, Outasight
  • Where: Brooklyn, NY + Facebook / Soundcloud / Amazon
  • When: His LP Can’t Wait is out and mad free.
  • Why: Building a quality bridge between rock and hip-hop is always a tricky affair. A lot of bros have tried and failed miserably the past few years. When you hear a dude dropping it right it is a pleasant reminder of how fun this kind of thoughtful party music can be. But no thinking tonight when OnCue rips up The Burning Ear stage to close out day 1 of our SXSW parties! He is on right after “Rich Kid” producer Brenton Duvall. Will they rock the stage together? I probably can’t say…

♫ OnCue – Feel Tall (The Soundmen Remix)

Bonus Soundmen remix to remind you that these guys are still the finest.
