[PLAYLIST] The Best SONGS of 2012 – Part 1 (Jan-June)

Lets not talk about the fact this year is already half over. Thats just insane. About as insane as the quality of jams that have been pumping through TBE HQ’s speakers these past 6 months. Here is the best of the best. Did I miss any? Did you miss any?

(Thanks to Vladimir Bobritskiy for the album art.)

25. My Great Ghost – Plain Sight / A pulsating, haunting, and thoroughly beautiful journey.

24. Purity Ring – Obedear / Slightly creepy. Very ominous. Highly Read more

[QUICKIE] Tanlines – MIXED EMOTIONS (w/ “All of Me”)

pardon me for asking, pardon me for thinking, all of me is asking, all of me is thinking

♫ Tanlines – All of Me

Tanlines once had promise. They have now delivered big time with a solid, textured album & even better 2-piece (!) live show. Hello summer.

[Quickies are mini-reviews that can fit into a 140 character tweet. They are of albums that people already know of but perhaps are curious about our take on it. What did you think of the disc?]

[LIVE] Tanlines @ The Echo 4/30/12

Tanlines – Real Life

Some people say you shouldn’t have backing tracks in live shows. I say shut up and listen to Tanlines rocking your insides. Because that’s what they did. Not even poor vocal volume on Eric or unnecessary stage banter from Jessie could take away from the straight party these guys brought. Everyone in the room was dancing by the time they closed out with “Real Life.” It’s just too bad the tour ended tonight.

[VIDEO] Tanlines – “Brothers”

One of the best songs of the year gets a nifty video treatment. Follow the Tanlines guys as they meander through the song like on a drowsy Sunday evening. Watch on your iPhone too.

[MP3] Tanlines – “Brothers”

i’m just the same as i ever been, but i’m the only one who doesn’t notice it

♫ Tanlines – Brothers

  • Who: Jesse & Eric. Not brothers.
  • What: Tropical indie, kinda like Future Islands, Friendly Fires, Restless People
  • Where: NYC + Facebook / Amazon
  • When: Debut LP Mixed Emotions is out in March
  • Why: Tanlines’ debut EP Settings was awesome and based on the sunset swing of “Brothers” I know Mixed Emotions will too. The duo sure has taken their sweet time getting it done so it had better be. It will, though. And summer will be so much sweeter for it.

[MP3] RESTLESS PEOPLE DON’T know how to BACK DOWN from such rockingness

hold me up, hold me down, hold me back, hold me tight, hold me close, don’t let go this time

♫ Restless People – Don’t Back Down

Ok, so this one is a two-parter. First, there is this epic jam from Restless People that sounds like a reggaeton hit slowed to half speed and then shot into space on a cocktail umbrella. Just give in to the ass shaking and handclaps, you’ll be a better person for it. Restless People share 2 members with Tanlines and you can hear a bit of that tropical tinge soaking through. “Don’t Look Down” is off the Brooklyn group’s debut album (which also contains the great “Days Of Our Lives“) but I discovered the track on the latest installment of the Poule d’Or compilation series. Volume 5 dropped a few ago and it’s a massively solid affair. Featuring new tracks from the likes of Young Empires and Museum of Bellas Artes, it’s 20 tracks of bouncy, slushy, rustling, pop music that is perfect to drift along with.

SUMMER ROLLS ON /// A Summer Mix, Vol 2

The summer continues! This mix is a bit mellower while stil maintaining some upbeat summer vibes. Kinda the perfect soundtrack for a long summer bike ride in speedos and a pedo ‘stache with a bike basket full of brews and your tank top. Enjoy and don’t forget about Volume 1.

1. ♫ Javelin – Vibrationz

2. ♫ Sean Bones – Easy Street

3. ♫ Annuals – Eyes in the Darkness

4. ♫ Lee Fields – Ladies

Joel & Scotts Top 50 Remixes 2010

More links at the bottom! ///

Ok, so we’ve got some remixes here! I have to say, I haven’t been blown away by a lot of remixes this year. A handful have been on repeat but most others have just lasted a few listens. Anyway, RAC is back in full effect, basically dropping pure gold. Don Diablo is doing his thing, turning so-so tracks into epicness. The Soundmen are back with another super-infectious remix. The Hood Internet (and Jay-Z??) are dominating the little Mashup section at the bottom. Some familiar names, some fresh faces, all great jams. I’m going to leave these without comments for now because frankly, they don’t need them and I want to get this list out in time for Friday night! Rock on! Read more
