If you thought I died then that’s silly. I been here, just busy as all get out between work and then holidays and then the Open’er Festival. I’ve had this digest simmering for an extended minute now so cool kids take a chill pill if you are already up on these. Rock on folks and expect vol. 25 sooner than soon.

NEW RELEVENT JAMS

♫ J. Cole – Work Out / Another smooth jam from J. Cole. I like this guy’s flavor.

♫ Portugal, The Man – Got It All (This Can’t Be Living Now) / New Portugal! Not my favorite of their tracks but their stuff is generally on a different level anyway.

♫ Hercules & Love Affair – Painted Eyes (Radio Edit) / I’ve heard a few of the new Hercules tracks and while they are no “Blind” this one definitely has Read more

Joel & Scotts Top 50 Remixes 2010

More links at the bottom! ///

Ok, so we’ve got some remixes here! I have to say, I haven’t been blown away by a lot of remixes this year. A handful have been on repeat but most others have just lasted a few listens. Anyway, RAC is back in full effect, basically dropping pure gold. Don Diablo is doing his thing, turning so-so tracks into epicness. The Soundmen are back with another super-infectious remix. The Hood Internet (and Jay-Z??) are dominating the little Mashup section at the bottom. Some familiar names, some fresh faces, all great jams. I’m going to leave these without comments for now because frankly, they don’t need them and I want to get this list out in time for Friday night! Rock on! Read more

Remix Roundup Vol. 21 – 5.6.10 – EPIC!!!!

I feel like we know each other well enough that I can be honest with you, right? Well I gotta say that sometimes I put a remix in one of these roundups that I am not totally in love with but is interesting/unique/whatever. I just want you to know that even though this is the longest roundup ever at 17 tracks this is not one of those cases. All these jams are going off and I am soooo stoked to be delivering them to you! Dive in! The water is hott!

The Best Albums of 2009 / The Top 15

This is it. The best of the best. As determined by me and in alphabetical-by-artist order. This list has been a labor of love and it is an honor to pay tribute to so many fantastic albums. With that said, don’t hesitate to lift your leg and leave your own mark in the comments. Or just track down the albums here that you don’t know and get down with a good set of headphone. I know these lists are self indulgent and often pointless but they are fun nonetheless. A big thank you to all the TBE readers who stick with me day after day and trudge through my ramblings. Ok, I’m out. Carry on! Read more

TEGAN AND SARA have earned SAINTHOOD

it’s been so long since you said ‘well i know what i want and what i want’s right here with you’

♫ Tegan & Sara – The Ocean

It’s been 2 weeks since I dropped “Hell” on you to celebrate the release of Tegan & Sara’s Sainthood. That day I started listening to the album and it’s been on steady rotation since. The sisters have definitely stepped up their game on this one and have brought a faster, tighter, more in-your-face album with over 6o% of the tracks clocking in under 3 minutes. “Northshore” is the most punk, all ripping guitars and punched up vocals, while still retaining a very T&S sound. “Alligator” (below) and it’s sauntering beat might be the most traditional track and “The Ocean” (above) might be my favorite, but that’s a super tough choice. I wish I had some zippy remarks to make here but this is just going to be a boring endorsement of a great album. Every track is a jam and if you have ever appreciated Tegan and Sara you just can’t go wrong with Sainthood.

♫ DJ Tiësto w Tegan & Sara – Feel It In My Bones

When I started TBE 7 months ago, putting up a track by Tiësto was the last thing I ever thought I would do with it. Well, fuck. So much for that plan. But it’s not my fault! The legendary dutch DJ (and perennial butt of any ‘shitty DJ’ joke) had to go and team up with a roster of respected artists for his new album, Kaleidoscope. “Feel It In My Bones” still reeks of Tiësto and his mega-club sound but it also has my favorite Canadian-lesbian-indie-twins singing on it and maybe that’s enough for me. It’s been a few years since the girls’ last album and I think we are all hankering for some T&S. I wish I could say that this Tiësto post will be my one and only but with his forthcoming Kaleidoscope featuring Nelly Furtado, Emily Haines of Metric, Jónsi of Sigur Rós, Kele Okereke of Bloc Party, and Calvin Harris among others I just can’t promise anything.
