The Best Songs of 2010 for Shaking Your Ass/Rump/Donk/Moneymaker/What Your Mama Gave You: A New Years Eve Collection

The year comes to a close tomorrow and it’s time to start compiling those “Best Of” lists we all love. What better way to kick things off than with a mega-mix of the year’s best ass-shaking jams. Those tracks that just take a hold and force you to dip that hip, and just in time for New Year’s Eve!

Some are originals, some are remixes, and some are mashups. It’s no means a definitive list nor are the tracks in any sort of ranking. These are the tracks that have gotten my blood pumping all year long and so what better way to celebrate them than letting them ring in the new year! More specific lists coming once the year actually ends!

I’ve broken them down into three parts for easier navigation. If these lists were hot sauces they would Read more

♫ The Apples In Stereo – Dance Floor

“Dance Floor” is a jam that I have been holding out until the weekend to drop on you but Thursday will have to do cause I can’t wait! If you are like me then The Apples In Stereo are one of the bands that you always had a vague awareness of but only had one or two random mp3s kicking around. I’d been a big fan of “Same Old Drag” (below, from 2007’s New Magnetic Wonder) but never dug up any other jams of theirs. Then Frank over at Audio Muffin (again!) gushed over them and dropped “Dance Floor” on me and I got hip to this jive right quick. There is no denying “Dance Floor.” It just kicks off all my internal elements of good-time-having! The fact that all the dudes in the band are old enough to be your father just makes it’s boogie-down vibe all the better. Anyway, “Dance Floor” and a handful of other fun and upbeat pop jams can be found on the recently released Travelers In Space And Time. I’m not sold on the whole album (16 tracks will do that) but there are a bunch of great nuggets here. Light, goofy, danceable, and yet with just enough substance to keep you from rolling your eyes. “Dream About The Future,” “Hey Elevator,” “Told You Once,” and “It’s Alright” are all top-notch but really it’s hard to beat “Dance Floor” and the fantastic piano-driven hip-swinger below. NOTE: Elijah Wood fans should watch the video for “Dance Floor.”
