I don’t wanna hear one peep about how “summer is almost over!” or “but it’s not even sunny where I am” or “this mix is late” or “my eyes are melting from that album art.” Summer is a frame of mind and TBE is about to whip yours into shape! Now that you have grown tired of your own summer mix as well as all the ones that other blogs put out months ago, it’s time to get the summer mix to not only end all summer mixes, but to end summer itself! (Except thats not even true because I have a specially themed bonus summer mix for next week! Stay tuned…) The Burning Ear 2011 Summer Mega-Mix has something for everyone and happens in a few different waves so it’s best listened to in order.
So smooth out those short shorts, dust off those cocktail umbrellas, slide those shades up on the nose, and feel the warm breeze between your sandy toes because this mix is about to start with a bang. And did I mention that album art courtesy of DARTS? I can’t even count the number of awesome things going on. There is at least one for each of the 19 jams happening below. Read more

hot things, hot dames, sunbathe, bra strings, hotel beach babes, man i lost both keys
Some sneaky weekend streams here! What better to start with then The Cool Kids instant summer classic “Swimsuits.” TBE alum Mayer Hawthorne lays a touch of soul on the funked out affair, sending the whole jam into the stratosphere. The grooves and flow are just massive on this thing, making me think that The Cool Kids may have more tricks up their sleeve then I’ve heard on their previous mixtapes.  Their debut album When Fish Ride Bicycles just came out and I may just have to investigate. Although perhaps its collaborations where I like them best. Anyway, for now I gotta put on my swimsuit and hit the beach. I’ve got a sudden urge to holler at some ladies…
Loosen those belts because this Digest is quite the spread and you’re gonna need some breathing room to get through all 18 of these morsels. Bear with me because, save for the last two, this is all great stuff and there are a few “Best ___ of 2010” shoe-ins lurking below. Once again, the jams are broken into “courses” for your convenience. Enjoy!

The Cool Kids make hip-hop, and they exist in the world. I’m fine with that. I’m just not that into their stuff. Bring Hey Champ into the mix and now you have my attention. Apparently “Champions” is a track by The Cool Kids that I have never heard before and I’m guessing Hey Champ found it while Googling themselves and decided to make it awesome. It worked. They are champions. Woo. This jam won’t blow you out of your seat but it will make you sink into it a littler cooler and a little sexier. As long as you resist that urge to pop your collar.
