Some are originals, some are remixes, and some are mashups. It’s no means a definitive list nor are the tracks in any sort of ranking. These are the tracks that have gotten my blood pumping all year long and so what better way to celebrate them than letting them ring in the new year! More specific lists coming once the year actually ends!
I’ve broken them down into three parts for easier navigation. If these lists were hot sauces they would Read more
♫ The Dance Party – If You Can
If you follow The Burning Ear then you know The Dance Party’s “Sasha Don’t Sleep” is one of my favorite songs of this blog (original, accolades, remix, remix). And if you agree with me at all on that one then you probably wondered how a debut LP would sound from this DC/LA quartet. Touch dropped in September and although it took me a while to get a hold of it I have been chewing on it the past few weeks in an attempt to figure out what was going on. My favorite thing about the version of “Sasha Don’t Sleep” that it my ears 18 months ago was it’s raw energy and unbridled rock n roll attitude. Each instrument was audible and clear in it’s role to propel the song into the crevices of my brain. Unfortunately Touch opens with a new version of the song that somehow feels flat. All the notes are in the same place but the production is so glossy it losses some impact. The whole album leans to the shiny side which will make it hard to swallow for negative Nancys and those adverse to dancing with their arms in the air. However, if you can get on the same wavelength as these appropriately named party starters then you are in for some crisp dance-rock jams that are sure to go down easy with a couple drinks and a strobe light. My pick of the 13 jams is “If You Can” which has all the staples of a Dance Party track, including that oh-s0-important instantly sing-along-able chorus. Other dance jams “Snake Eyes” and “Let’s Start Some Trouble” are also worth some attention. In the end it’s not an album that’s going on anyones best-of lists but it can certainly fuel a few parties for the willing dance party participant!

Yeah, that’s right… We have a ridonculous logjam of tunes to throw at you. Looks like our goal of just 12 songs is out the window, as we will have to bump it up to 20 for a while to get rid of some of this mass. You’re welcome.

♫ The Dance Party- Sasha Don’t Sleep (Dillon Francis Remix) / Brandon posted another rad mix of this song too, not to mention the original track back in 09. We’ve really taken a liking to this Sasha girl, and we’re pretty sure that this Dillon Francis remix will keep her dancing.
♫ Lady Gaga- Monster (Computer Blue Remix) / Ummm yes. Computer Blue, the duo from OK city have graced all of our eardrums with a BANGER. This one is special.

♫ The Dance Party – Sasha Don’t Sleep (Pance Party Remix) / I can’t guarantee that listening to this song will make you as hyped as this crowd but it certainly couldn’t hurt. I love that one of 2009’s best jams is getting more love!
♫ Something a la Mode – 5 AM ft K. Flay (Pance Party Remix) / Did someone say Pance Party? Yeah, I DID! These guys rock the wheels right off on this jam. Something a la Mode are some crazy classical-electro outfit that wisely brought Read more
How
The Dance Party – Sasha Don’t Sleep
The Dance Party hail from Washington D.C. and, as their name implies, rock hard enough to loosen even the tightest political sphincters. They play refreshing straight-up rock with none of the electro/synth/keytar/remix business that drenches today’s sound scape. “Sasha Don’t Sleep” is the kind of music that instantly gets you jumping around the room and singing along to lyrics you don’t yet know. With one EP in the bag and their Tigers EP on it’s way I have nothing but high hopes for more rock-n-roll freight-train from these guys. And who is this Sasha chick? I want to party with her.
