The 25 Best Songs of 2009… Since Then / July-Dec.

Here is my list of the best songs of the second half of 2009. Be sure to read the first half’s list here and treat the two posts as a tag team of epic jams.

Wow, what a year. TBE is a month shy of it’s first birthday and now I have to wrap it’s whole existence into a short list? Tough times. Well, since objectivity is a myth, I am gonna keep my Best 20.9 Songs Of 2009 So Far list as the gold standard for my pre-July opinions and instead focus on the year’s latter half here. Why let time revise my previous favorites when the same fate will never befall these tracks? After all, it’s just a calendar. Anyway, I hope this list serves as a reminder of some forgotten jams or, if you are new to TBE, introduce you a new favorite jam. Whoever you are, and however you ended up here (Hi freeloaders!), may you enjoy the shit out of your time here (and there).

Remix Roundup /// Vol. 8 – Reflect & Unwind

I can’t believe it’s August already. I can’t believe TBE is almost 6 months old. I can’t believe this is the 8th roundup of remixes. I can’t believe you are still reading this. OK, now I really can’t believe it. I cant. Seriously, nothing you say can make me believe you are still reading this. It’s called belief dude, it’s personal, I don’t have to explain or justify it. I mean, yeah, I guess if I saw you reading it I would ‘believe’ but that’s not even the point. The point is that there are so many fresh remixes down there and you are still reading this garbage. Some people, man, some people.

The Drums made the perfect summer song. Let’s celebrate and Go Surfing.

wake up, it’s a beautiful morning

The Drums – Let’s Go Surfing

Ahhhh! I love this song! The Drums pull a perfect Beach Boys meets The Ramones on “Let’s Go Surfing” and taken full control of soundtracking my epic Saturday. The fact that I don’t even know how to surf hasn’t stopped me from yelling the refrain out my car window as I drove around L.A. today. (At first I thought he was telling “Obama” that he wanted to go surfing, which was perfectly awesome to me.) Despite looking like perfect 80s Cali kids and making the best surf song I know, The Drums hail from Brooklyn and just played their first live show 6 weeks ago. I have a heard a few oher tracks that came nowhere near “Surfing” but let’s hope they use that hot New York summer to keep the energy up and the sunny rock jams flowing.
