[MP3] Forbidden Friends – “Tiny Hands”

hold you in my lap, pet you like a cat, and feel the sun shining until the moon rises

♫ Forbidden Friends – Tiny Hands

The Thermals’ frontman Hutch Harris has a side project where he still collaborates with the other two Thermals members (Plus the drummer from Telekenisis). So, if we have learned anything after yesterday’s Alexander post, it’s that the modern side project is all about working with your normal band. But whatever, really, because this is fun stuff. Like Thermals lite. A bit more laid back and airy, letting the grooves shine through. As if my favorite Thermals tracks like “Never Listen To Me” and “I Don’t Believe You” were stripped naked and given a few cocktails (“pet you like a cat”!?).

The 25 Best Songs of 2010… Since Then (July-Dec.)

Here it is, for better or worse, for agreement or not, my list of the top 25 jams that rocked and/or rolled my ass during the second half of 2010. This is the 4th such list in TBE history and by far the most quality collection. There were  so many tracks that didn’t make the cut, and so many more that I think should be ranked higher. Can’t put ’em all in the top 10, now can I? Anyway, like all my lists, the ranking is loose. The quality, however, is tight as a drum… a tom-tom drum, perhaps…

25. ♫ Wiz Khalifa – Black & Yellow / Annnnd, this is why we don’t do year end lists before the YEAR ENDS. A late entry to my iTunes and an instant favorite. Swagger city up in this one! Push to start!

24. ♫ Fabolous – You Be Killin Em / Naw, Fabo, YOU be killen ’em. Niiice.

23. ♫ Muscles – Girl Crazy Go / Should be called “Brandon Crazy Go” cause that’s what happens. It’s like Read more

♫ The Thermals – I Don’t Believe You

The Thermals are back with their 5th LP and if you have never heard of them then this is prime time to start rocking! Long time fans may not feel the same, as the band have gotten more polished and are wielding bigger hooks on Personal Life. This is definitely my favorite batch of Thermals so far! Like a god rock band should, The Thermals work with the classic guitar, bass, and drums set-up, only on tracks like “I Don’t Believe You” they serve up some hearty “OOH OOh oohh!”s and a rhythm that you can’t help but shimmy to. And then there is “Never Listen To Me.”

♫ The Thermals – Never Listen To Me

Holy crap. Are you hearing that guitar work? It’s the best set of sounds I have heard coming from a guitar all year! Not many rock songs could stand alone as an instrumental but this one tells a tale, lyrics or not.  The fact that the vocals are so perfectly fitted to the slow burning groove are a pure bonus! “Your Love Is So Strong” is another album highlight but that’s not saying much since every track brings something great to the table making Personal Life one of this years most pleasant surprises.

BONUS: ♫ The Hood Internet – I Don’t Break You Down (Juicy J vs The Thermals) / The Hood Internet further prove how solid this music is. Get down.
