A Playlist for Stevie’s Postcard Project

So my little buddy Stevie is embarking a pretty big journey tomorrow and I’m trying to help him calm his nerves. He started this Kickstarter project to build some friends to send postcards to. If thats confusing you can check out his project because he explains it better than me. However, I did make him a playlist for his travels and figured I would share it with you guys!

When I played him the playlist he had a few comments I’ll include here. Enjoy and please do check out his project!

1. Coldplay – Postcards From Far Away

Yeah, thats me sending postcards from far away!

2. Paula & Karol – Goodnight Warsaw

Well not “Goodnight” because I haven’t met Warsaw yet so I’m gonna sing “Hello Warsaw!”

3. Rogue Wave – Postage Stamp World

Yea I think thats my new world…

4. Joywave – London

Its dark and weird but I like it. Did I just describe my future feelings on London?

5. Fake Blood – London

Even darker! Woah!

6. RDGLDGRN – Lootin In London

I’ll certainly try not to… and I’ll give stern looks to any looters I see!

7. Jukebox The Ghost – Postcard

A love song about Postcards! My favorite kind of love song!

8. Friendly Fires – Paris
9. Magic Man – Paris
10. Explosions In The Sky – Postcard From 1952
11. Little Dragon – Paris
12. Kate Nash – Paris

Wow its Paris overload time! I was just dancing!

13. Jens Lekman – A Postcard to Nina

Yeah you gotta explain to Nina’s dad whats going on. Sounds confusing!

14. Is Tropical – Berlin
15. The Young Professionals – Fuck Off Berlin

Strong feelings about Berlin! I wonder if my feelings will be that strong…

16. Peter Bjorn And John – School Of Kraut

Its like German surf music! But I don’t think I will be surfing in Berlin…

17. Beirut – Postcards From Italy

I’m not going to Italy but I appreciate the mention of postcards.

18. Bayside – Phone Call From Poland

They should have called this song “A Postcard from Poland” but maybe that never happened to them. I could fix that!

19. Maximo Park – Postcard Of A Painting

I prefer postcards with pictures of rivers or trees or buildings. Just my personal preference.

20. Europe – The Final Countdown

GAH! The countdown is real and I only have hours to pack! Gotta go!

[PLAYLIST] The Best REMIXES of 2012 – Part 2 (July-Dec)

Man oh man. Could we be in a better world for fun remixes of great songs? Some of the old guard has been slacking in quality lately (RAC, where you at?) but new talent is cropping up in droves. Cyril Hahn practically made his name from that Destiny’s Child remix. Noah Hyde is on the map with amazing work. Manu el Chino nabs his second spot of 2012. Too many great tracks. Get on it for the weekend and check out all the bands and remixers you may have missed through the years. And especially listen to that Years & Years remix. What a genre flip. Mmmm…..

Be sure to catch all the 2012 “BEST OF” lists!

[STREAM / COVER] The Young Professionals – “Be With You Tonight” & “Video Games” (Lana Del Rey cover)

should find a faster train, a taxi in the rain, i should be laying now with you in a bed somehow

I don’t know how I missed this new mega dance jam by Tel Aviv favorites The Young Professionals but I’m making up for lost time with repeated listens now. This oversized and infectious love banger also come with a video made of fan photos inspired by the lyrics. And there is also their great Lana Del Rey cover that I also somehow have never posted. I’m sorry.

[REMIX] The Echo Friendly – “Same Mistakes” (The Young Professionals remix)

i haven’t changed a bit, i’m still not over it

The original “Same Mistakes” only hints at the full groove that TBE faves The Young Professionals develop here. It is very generous of them to give us a little taste of their magic as we await a follow-up to their debut.

The 25 Best MUSIC VIDEOS of 2011

Every once in a while I meet someone who casually mentions that music videos are dead and I’m always shocked. Music videos have never been more alive and vibrant than they are now in the age of video democracy online. This post is a celebration of the creative spirit that fights every day to set great songs to even better visuals. You guys are my heroes.

Watch the videos in a countdown stye playlist below or continue on to catch them embedded 1-by-1 with my woefully minimal commentary.

[LP] The Young Professionals – 9:00 TO 17:00, 17:00 TO WHENEVER (w/ “20 Seconds” Offer Nissim remix)

the cute boy is falling off the speaker, don’t be my friend, there’s a party in my mouth you can take a picture

♫ The Young Professionals – 20 Seconds (Offer Nissim Club Remix) (Download period expired)

  • Who: Producer Yonathan Goldshtein & Israeli gay music icon Ivri Lider
  • What: Smart dance pop, like XX
  • Where: Tel Aviv, Israel + Facebook / Soundcloud / Amazon
  • When: Their debut LP is out now.
  • Why: The Young Professionals made a huge impression on me early last year with “D.I.S.C.O.” It was one of the year’s best tracks and host to the legendary video. Their album was going to have some big shoes to fill. At 14 tracks 9:00 to 17:00 fits a bit too much into clunky shoe but I’ll be damned if it isn’t a great foot. Second single “20 Seconds” is obviously great but it comes with a whole team of mega-jams that give it a run for it’s money. “Pop” is a delicately groovy piece of soundtrack-esque introspection. “Deserve” is a roller coaster ride of self doubt and dancing. “Fuck Off Berlin” incorporates the middle finger into a robot dance  routine. “Blood Makes Noise” churns and chugs like a friday night inter-city train full of hormonal teens.

After taking in just a few of these tracks its clear that self analysis is at the forefront of Lider’s lyrics. He is a man unafraid of taking a cold hard look at his weaknesses. Respect for that. But funnily enough, he doesn’t sing about not making whip-smart pop music. He may be even wiser that we think.

NOTE: I have been selected by the Vibe Israel program to visit the country for a week in March to meet musicians and DJs and generally take in all the rich musical culture they have to offer. Stay tuned for more from Israel, The Young Professionals, and all the other music I am sure to discover on that amazing trip.

The Best Party Songs of 2011

Yes! In time for NYE! This is my favorite year-end list to make because its obviously the most fun. And I give it the least amount of stress. Read on for Read more

[MP3] The Young Professionals – “D.I.S.C.O.”

‘c’ is for curious, and ‘o’ is for oh my god

♫ The Young Professionals – D.I.S.C.O (Radio Edit)

Oh, did you think you were having a quiet Friday night in? Hahahaha. Just press play and then try, TRY, not getting up and shaking that gorgeous ass of yours (really, it is). Tel Aviv is officially my new favorite city thanks to The Young Professionals and the stunning video (below) they made for this epic Ottowan-sampling jam. I’m not even gonna try and describe this song because you just need to watch/listen on your own and then you will understand.

I almost want to leave The Young Professionals unexplained but it turns out they are way too interesting for that. Besides being from Tel Aviv (a city I get the feeling is way cooler than any of us realize) the duo lives up to their name by being comprised of two guys who already have solid careers of their own. Ivri Lider already has 2 platinum records and 4 gold in Israel and seems to be one of the country’s most respected artists. And it’s no surprise why as he handles dance explosions like “D.I.S.C.O.” just as well as his stunning heartbreak song “Jesse” and even flipping Katy Perry’s “I Kissed a Girl” on it’s head (Listen to “Jesse” and you will understand). Partner in TYP-crime, Yonathan Goldshtein, has also established himself as a formidable producer by working with some of the best in the Israeli music industry. So separately they are damn awesome and together they are The Young Professionals. What does that make us? Damn lucky. Read more
