The 25 Best Songs of 2009… Since Then / July-Dec.

Here is my list of the best songs of the second half of 2009. Be sure to read the first half’s list here and treat the two posts as a tag team of epic jams.

Wow, what a year. TBE is a month shy of it’s first birthday and now I have to wrap it’s whole existence into a short list? Tough times. Well, since objectivity is a myth, I am gonna keep my Best 20.9 Songs Of 2009 So Far list as the gold standard for my pre-July opinions and instead focus on the year’s latter half here. Why let time revise my previous favorites when the same fate will never befall these tracks? After all, it’s just a calendar. Anyway, I hope this list serves as a reminder of some forgotten jams or, if you are new to TBE, introduce you a new favorite jam. Whoever you are, and however you ended up here (Hi freeloaders!), may you enjoy the shit out of your time here (and there).

Throw Me The Statue – Ancestors

When I heard that TBE super faves Throw Me The Statue had a new album out, Creaturesque, I was pretty excited. When “Ancestors” was the first track I heard off of it I was fist pumping and may have even squealed. However, much like spotting a swimming pool through the bushes on a hot day and then running closer only to find out out it is filled with muck, Creaturesque dissapointed upon further listening. Now let’s be clear, it could very well be a fantastic album but I am a huge fan of their debut, Moonbeams, and had high hopes. Sean from eMusic is into it and saysCreaturesque sways and swings where it needs to.” I feel like a lot of the beats are familiar from Moonbeams and the variety of vibes and energy levels are missing. I guess the fact that TMTS has chosen the uninspired “Hi-Fi Goon” (get it here) as the lead single (and not Ancestors) just shows we are on different pages this time around. Anyway, Ancestors is so good that I will still wear my TMTS shirt with pride (It’s also super freakin soft).

What Up ’08? (part 1)

2008 was a great year for music, blah blah blah. In fact it was a fucking santoGOLDEN year for music but you probably read some “Best Of 2008” lists like Forever Ago in some other Day & Age. In fact, you probably still remember when we got our Sex set On Fire, someone Lykked our Li, Hercules had a Love Affair, and it all happened over one big Circus of a Vampire Weekend. Well there were at least A Million crazy good songs/albums but I dont want to just Feed The Animals and Cut and Copy what some other blog said. You dont need that kind of Heartbreak on your new favorite music blog. As the Management of this here music blog I want to talk about my favorites, the ones that you may not have heard too much about but that certainly called out to me and said “Dear Science…” oh wait, I mean “DearBrandon, love us like you love chips!” And I did. Hard.
