Brandon’s TBE Digest 24 – [7.6.2011] New Jams, Remixes, Mashups & Covers!

If you thought I died then that’s silly. I been here, just busy as all get out between work and then holidays and then the Open’er Festival. I’ve had this digest simmering for an extended minute now so cool kids take a chill pill if you are already up on these. Rock on folks and expect vol. 25 sooner than soon.

NEW RELEVENT JAMS

♫ J. Cole – Work Out / Another smooth jam from J. Cole. I like this guy’s flavor.

♫ Portugal, The Man – Got It All (This Can’t Be Living Now) / New Portugal! Not my favorite of their tracks but their stuff is generally on a different level anyway.

♫ Hercules & Love Affair – Painted Eyes (Radio Edit) / I’ve heard a few of the new Hercules tracks and while they are no “Blind” this one definitely has Read more

[LP] TORO Y MOI has one more NEW BEAT for us

thought i had moved on, tried to make ends meet

I’m not in love with the new Toro Y Moi album, Underneath The Pine, but there are a few great tracks. First single “Still Sound” has been spinning regularly along with it’s myriad sweet remixes and I’ve recently fallen for second single “New Beat” which kicks with funk and groove that hits at a much more talented song craftsman than Chaz has been letting on with his fuzzed out “chillwave” stuff. Just get on that bass line and handclap your way to happiness. Otherwise, the album meanders a bit and doesn’t pack the same massive punch that these two singles do.

[MP3/RMX] AMTRAC, it’s time to TAKE YOUR THRONE because you STILL SOUND epic, even to JOANNA

oooohhhhh!

♫ Amtrac – Take Your Throne

For those of you who are already itching in anticipation of Joel & Scott’s next party-starting Remix Roundup tomorrow, I’ll drop a little appetizer on your salivating tongues. Thank me when you stop sweating. So Amtrac was all up in TBE speakers a few months ago and now he is back with another banging track and a few rock-solid remixes. “Take Your Throne” is an instant body mover, tapping straight into the ‘central dance cortex’ (totally exists) and injecting it with vitamin enhanced beats and tweaks that will actually make you live longer. Or at least dance longer.

♫ Toro Y Moi – Still Sound (Amtrac Remix)

Amtrac continues to stutter cut his way to swirling groove magic on the popularly remixed “Still Sound” but still manages to add something totally fresh in that subtle donk sound that carries the beat along. (Not to be confused with simply “putting a donk on it”)

♫ Little Comets – Joanna (Amtrac Remix)

Fellow UK upstarts Little Comets have a proper jam of their own in “One Night In October” but it’s “Joanna” that gets the Amtrac treatment of spacey synths and thumpy bass. More of a late night groover than the other but we all gotta come down sometime. Amen Amtrac!

[MP3] TORO Y MOI makes it hard to stay STILL with his new SOUND

saying it could be too much

♫ Toro y Moi – Still Sound

Because what better way to start the new year then with rubbery bass-lines and a sunny groove that is sure to put a little swagger in the step of even the most winter-hardened grump.

I never got into Toro y Moi’s 2010 much hyped-debut but “Still Sound” points towards a brighter 2011 for Chaz Bundick. Stereogum nailed it on the head when they said:

“Still Sound” is much meatier than “Blessa” or any of Causers Of This, so take a listen even if you found his other stuff too gauzy for your taste.

Amen. And I love that album art. Weird in just the perfect way and that pulp-or-flower double take gets me every time.

♫ Marmaduke Duke – Kid Gloves (Electrically Charged Boy remix) / It’s this remix that inspired me to track down Marmaduke Duke’s jams and if you’re listening then you know why. I can’t stop grooving to Read more
