Vampire Weekend muster up their collective white-boy sexiness for a surprisingly funky and fun take on this Summer jam. Plus, “hottest fish” may be my new favorite phrase.
Vampire Weekend are an institution. Or at least they feel that way to me. Looking at their name on my invitation to see them live at KCRW’s Apogee Berkeley Street Sessions brought back so many memories. The 2008 Los Angeles live show that left few concrete memories in it’s wake of dancing and fun. Two months later in Berlin they showed up to play ping pong at my all time favorite bar. (Ezra is pretty ace). There was the time a year an a half later when I pecked out my disappointed Contra review from the freezing winter hallway of Jagiellonian University in Kraków. More than most other bands, my Read more

Brandon’s TBE Digest is a place where I gather up all the recent jams that are worth a listen (or 10) but don’t necessarily need their own post. Here you will find new tracks by known bands, remixes, covers, and even mashups if they are interesting. My favorites of the lot are in bold.
It’s a big one folks. Proceed with caution (and good speakers). Also note the new Digest logo that will be here to stay. Enough of that little weird cartoon guy we had for so long, amiright!? Cheers to new beginnings! And new jams!

NEW RELEVENT JAMS
♫ Toro y Moi – All Alone / Toro y Moi continue their Digest domination with this great jam off their new EP Freaking Out.
Bum-budda-bum-budda-bum… oh, sorry. It’s really hard to not rock out to that handclap/percussion combo. Kick that jumping guitar and old school Casio sound on top and “Wristwatch” is off like a rocket, lurching and sparking until it comes to rest less than two minutes after take-off. With a dash of Vampire Weekend in their blood these Australians have been winning over huge audiences back home for years. It’s a damn shame they’ve only crossed over to my ears now because this kind of hyper kinetic jam is what my alley is made of. After 2 acclaimed EPs they just dropped their debut LP, Escapades, and I’m off to buy it now.

Look people, its Halloween weekend which means shits going to get a little bit bonkers (at least here in the US). We, Joel & Scott happen to be rather large fans of the ridiculous. So, since we are so thrilled about this special weekend we wanted to set you off in epic fashion.
Here’s a massive cup of RR Vol.30 in your eardrums to start your weekend.
Yeah, that’s right… We have a ridonculous logjam of tunes to throw at you. Looks like our goal of just 12 songs is out the window, as we will have to bump it up to 20 for a while to get rid of some of this mass. You’re welcome.
Lastly, don’t forget to break some dance floor hearts this weekend.
And oh yeah,…. Get Nurdy’

♫ The Dance Party- Sasha Don’t Sleep (Dillon Francis Remix) / Brandon posted another rad mix of this song too, not to mention the original track back in 09. We’ve really taken a liking to this Sasha girl, and we’re pretty sure that this Dillon Francis remix will keep her dancing.
♫ Lady Gaga- Monster (Computer Blue Remix) / Ummm yes. Computer Blue, the duo from OK city have graced all of our eardrums with a BANGER. This one is special.
Ahhh, summer… If mine wasn’t currently operating as the antithesis of all this relaxing and peaceful I would definitely have had this mix up sooner, but alas, it wasn’t to be. However, seeing as tomorrow I head out on an 18 day family vacation (never too old!) it’s time to get these summer jams pumping! Today is Volume 1 and the next two Fridays will bring Volumes 2 & 3 respectively. I’ve never understood the concept of an all-encompassing summer mix because like all things amazing, summer has many facets and is home to many moods. So I’ve gone and put together 3 full mixes of summer-themed goodness, each with it’s own sun-soaked vibe. Seeing as how this year’s summer was perhaps the most highly anticipated (and deserved) clump of warm days in Polish history I decided to kick off this summer mix series with a big rousing 54-minute high-five to the summer sun. Summer In Hi-Fi is a mix that celebrates summer with all the energy and eagerness of that first day at the beach or pool. Take a gander at the track list after the jump and download the whole mix right below!

If this is your first time to the Burning Ear then welcome to The TBE Digest, a place where I take a break from my usual gushing enthusiasm and cover some recent tracks that I am not so in love with but are still interesting/relevant/whatever. I’ve also started throwing covers in as well because, well, because I love covers. Dive in!
♫ MGMT – Flash Delirium / The first single from MGMT’s follow-up, Congratulations, which is streaming for free at their website. I haven’t heard it yet because frankly, “Flash Delirium” doesn’t really make me want to. It’s not that it’s even “not as good as “Kids”/”Time To Pretend”/”Electric Feel,” it’s just not very listenable.
Time is tight and I’m late for a date with with the sandman so I’m gonna forgo my usual ramblings for an edited version. I’ve arranged these in a loose order of great to merely relevant so use that as a guide. Or just cherry pick. Whatevs.  If enough people miss my personal notes then I can bring ’em back but if not then frankly I could use the extra time. Word.
♫ The Hood Internet vs The 2000s – Decalogue / The hood Internet take an epic 6 minute trip through the 2000s. A must listen for anyone who has been alive for the past 10 years and enjoys good times and great memories. For realz. Crank this and bust your moves all up on memory lane.
