[MP3] Wild Nothing – “Paradise”

dancer in the night, playing with my eyes, velvet tongue so sweet, say anything you like

♫ Wild Nothing – Paradise

  • Who: Jack Tatum & friends
  • What: Summer smooth wave, like Toro Y Moi, Twin Shadow, Poolside
  • Where: Virginia + Facebook
  • When: But new LP Nocturne now.
  • Why: It’s been a couple summers since we heard from Wild Nothing and as this one rolls to a close it’s great having more of Tatum’s light-rock grooves to sooth the body. “Paradise” sounds like it could have easily come from another decade but I guess kicking it poolside is a timeless activity.

WILD NOTHING sounds nothing like you might hear in CHINATOWN but that’s a-ok

we’re not happy ’til we’re running away, the clouds in your eyes

♫ Wild Nothing – Chinatown

There is something very loveably ramshackle about the way this hazy little jam drifts about on it’s effortlessly bouncy rhythm. That wavy synth and those plucky guitars swirl me right up into the beautiful fuzz. Wild Nothing is the solo project of Virginian Jack Tatum whose debut album, Gemini, has been getting creamed over lately. Some cursory MySPace listening has proved that the guy definitely knows his way around a lo-fi gauze-pop jam but nothing has grabbed me nearly as much as “Chinatown.” I imagine this will be the perfect soundtrack to those disappointingly cloudy summer days.
