Dubstep Roundup Vol. 32 – 6.18.2012 [Adventure Club, Kill Paris, Ellie Goulding, Purity Ring, and more…]

Welcome To Dubstep Roundup Vol. 32

What up my TBE peeps?  Its been long overdue, I know.  The Reason: As some of you know I’ve been working on several other projects.  Mainly, Lights & Music Entertainment; a Music Blog / Concert & Event Production Series.   Does this mean I’m done with TBE?  Nope, but most of my time will be spent building content for my own blog.  Don’t worry, my Remix & Dubstep Roundups are alive and well over there.  In fact, they are about to be better than ever.

I truly hope you have your bowels in check for this shit, because its about to get Nurdy as all get-up.

Frankly, its not safe in here.

Adventure Club – Do I See Color (Dafusia Remix) “LME” favorites get the Dafusia treatment.  Have no clue who Dafusia is, but I dig the way he treats tracks…

Band Of Horses – The Funeral (Sound Remedy Remix) / This is one hell of a melodic dubstep tune.  Sound Remedy, a Lights & Music alum, was working with magic glow-sticks when he created this gem. Read more

[ARTICLE] The New Tastemakers

The author is actually a woman. Oops.

Five weeks ago I had the pleasure of speaking with a Burning Ear reader who was writing an article on the way music blogs are changing the industry. May Wildman was writing the article for The University of Maryland’s daily newspaper. She asked me questions. We talked. Or rather, I talked. She listened patiently. Perhaps napped. Who can tell. Anyway, When I followed up a few days ago to see how it was received she said the paper never published it. Something about “end of the year and a lot of other material to publish.” Just cause that paper dropped the ball doesn’t mean Wildman’s work should go unread. After all, It’s pretty damn interesting. [INTERVIEW + VICEROY ROUNDUP] Its Summer Time with Viceroy

The other night I was up as late as usual, when it came to me.  The thought, “where is the sun in this cloudy city”.  The city I’m referring to is Seattle, a city blessed with more than its share of rain.  It was at this moment I feverishly signed onto Soundcloud to tried to fill the that sunny void in my life.  Enter Viceroy.

Joel: Being from the Seattle area we don’t get a whole lot of sun, so most of the time we have to live vicariously through other people or in my case, music. You seem to have a unique style of production that fits this picturesque image of mine. An image of beaches, pools, fruity drinks, good vibes and most importantly…. loads of women. I know you don’t live in Vegas, so what inspires this style of music for you?

Viceroy: I think my best experiences through-out life always happened in the summer. The summer is something everyone looks forward to and growing up I couldn’t get enough of it. I also find my style of music aka “summer music” to be a style that can be played in all different kinds of settings with all kinds of people. Its multi-functional in that sense, plus who doesn’t love a feel good track? I wasn’t always into feel good music, but when I first explored edm, nu-disco was introduced to me immediately and I fell in love with it.

Joel: Viceroy is an interesting moniker, its more than a dj name, its a ruler of sorts. Can you tell us a little about what Viceroy means to you and your music? Side note: Did you know that Christopher Columbus desperately wanted to be the Viceroy of all discovered lands?

[REMIX] PREMIERE: T-Pain ft. Wiz Khalifa & Lily Allen – “5 O’Clock” (DWNTWN 80’s Remix)

its like boy just get your ass up in that car and come get all of this love

♫ T-Pain – 5 O’Clock ft. Wiz Khalifa, Lily Allen (DWNTWN 80’s Remix)

So apparently T-Pain teamed up with Wiz Khalifa and Lily Allen on a boring song about how T-Pain forgot to sex his girlfriend so she eventually texted him a reminder. Then Khalifa gets romantic with a verse about how he didn’t feel like banging any of the other girls in the club so he came home to you. Awww….

If all that just put you to sleep then thank goodness Los Angeles’s dance magicians DWNTWN reworked the whole thing into a jam that actually might keep you up until 5 o’clock. The Mike Tyson sample they worked into the intro is appropriate as this remix is basically Tyson’s the original. Baby eating aside, DWNTWN are on a serious roll and I have no doubt that this is the beginning of a long 2012 of great tracks.
