The Magician – “Sunlight” feat. Years & Years

Sounds Like… summertime is finally here. And Years and Years are finally getting the love, recognition, and collaborations they deserve.

Location: Belgium. Dance floors. Pool Parties.

Future: More dance floors. More pool parties. And probably even more Belgium.

Also, Years and Years just dropped this one a few hours ago. Double trouble!

[VIDEO] Music Video Roundup – 3.3.13

Last night my buddy Sam was asking where the Music Video Roundups went so this is my answer to him. Nowhere! Get on this latest batch of eye-goodies. Dancing, decomposing, dreaming, driving, and a dab of demented depression. Get into it!

Big Black Delta – “Huggin & Kissin”

Workout – “Life is a Nightmare”

Years & Years – “Real”

Nicky Blitz – “Alex” (lyric video)

Chet Faker – “Talk Is Cheap”

Years & Years – “Real”

Pretty much everyday since I first heard “I Wish I Knew” I wake up hoping that the day will bring new music from London’s Years and Years. A couple of days since then have come through but none like the other day when I heard “Real” for the first time. The band has finally outdone themselves with this haunting surge of a jam that flickers and morphs under Olly’s amazing voice. Pardon me while I keep this on repeat for the rest of the day.

Years and Years – “Traps”

Years and Years - Traps

Years & Years’ previous single “I Wish I Knew” was hands down one of the best songs of 2012 so it is going to not be easy to top that in my ears. “Traps” disappointed at first but with repeated listened I see that they are just doing something different here. These guys do not fear the tender side. But it eventually breaks and the beat comes in. Then I feel it.

[PLAYLIST] The Best REMIXES of 2012 – Part 2 (July-Dec)

Man oh man. Could we be in a better world for fun remixes of great songs? Some of the old guard has been slacking in quality lately (RAC, where you at?) but new talent is cropping up in droves. Cyril Hahn practically made his name from that Destiny’s Child remix. Noah Hyde is on the map with amazing work. Manu el Chino nabs his second spot of 2012. Too many great tracks. Get on it for the weekend and check out all the bands and remixers you may have missed through the years. And especially listen to that Years & Years remix. What a genre flip. Mmmm…..

Be sure to catch all the 2012 “BEST OF” lists!

[PLAYLIST] The Best SONGS of 2012 – Part 2 (July-Dec)

Screw the Oscars! Now that the site is back up we can continue the (very late) Best of 2012 Awards!

So many great songs last year. The second 6 months of jams did more than stand up to the first. So many genres colliding in this list. Beautiful songs. Funny songs. Innovative songs. Simple songs. Dance songs. Rock songs. All songs that Read more

[REMIX] Years & Years – “I Wish I Knew” (James Fox remix)

i long to give yourself in nightly

7 minutes may seem like a long time but if you understand the monumental beauty of the original (& haven’t been cut from the friend team) then you will you find the pleasure of this jazz/deep house rework. Boom-tiss, boom-tiss, boom-tiss never sounded so good! Oh wait, then it breaks and it sounds even better! Suddenly 7 minutes isn’t a chore, its a ride! An experience! A reason to close your eyes, move your body, and feel something inside yourself. How do you spell “ooh oo oooh ooooh ooh oh ohhh“?

Besides being Jesse Pinkman approved, Years and Years have a B-side to “I Wish I Knew” called “The Whale.” It is much more melancholy, still gorgeous, and is streaming here.

[STREAM/VIDEO] Years and Years – “I Wish I Knew”

if you wear this night you can see forever

  • Who: Noel, Mikey, Olivier, Emre, & Olly
  • What: Delicate electronic indie rock, like Bombay Bicycle Club, Professor Penguin, Black Light Dinner Party
  • Where: London, UK + Facebook
  • When: Buy ” I Wish I Knew” now with B-Side “The Whale”
  • Why: If you can, hear this song as you watch it. The simple 1-room performance style video is uniquely and magically enjoyable in a way that is a testament to both the amazing song and Olly’s oddball charisma. At different moments he pulls of a convincing 5, 15, and 25 year old, all the while seeming to have more fun then anyone else in town. His smile and lanky dance moves are nearly as infectious as the song itself. Nearly… I’ve been selfishly keeping this track to myself for weeks now and it still gives me chills every time it starts. The light dub wobble perfectly offsets Olly’s angelic vocals and the simple rhythm. A heavy contender for song of the year. Video too.
