Great to play at a barbecue on the beach while playing volleyball or frisbee with your friends. This remix of TBE fave “Runaway” adds a more electronic dance spin to the original song to add some more of that indie dance in your life.
Well, its finally here! The full album download of The Burning Ear’s 5 Year Anniversary Album! A big thank to you all the bands that made such amazing jams for this project. It is a hug honor to have my name stamped on the cover of this but the real props go to the musicians. You all killed it!

To kick off the 5 Year Album Memoryy and Brothertiger are taking us all the way back to 2009, to one of the best tracks of the first year of The Burning Ear. Yeasayer’s “Ambling Alp” was an instant classic the first time I heard it and this cover puts a beautiful spin on the churning beats and dueling vocals. I’m imagining Memoryy and Brothertiger singing back and forth from different space command centers swirling through the stars.
The list goes one and makes my heart skip a beat every time I read it. And dont even get me started on heart skips when I LISTEN to these jams. Holy cow. You guys are in for a treat.
AND THEN, there is the epic album artwork above created by the amazing Meghan Ellie Smith. I’m basically a mess of excitement over here.
Stay tuned. The project rolls out next week….

Ahmed Gallab is Sinkane. The fact that Ahmed Gallab is also in Yeasayer and has played for Caribou and of Montreal is irrelevant now because this music is Sinkane’s. You can hear exactly why those bands want him as his Sudanese upbringing has clearly informed his sound with a bit of magic. Dreamy floaty guitar and drum music that gets a little psychedelic and a little chillwave-y both both in the best senses.
And we’re off. After far too long a break and a road trip from hell, I’m back. Not just in Washington state, but I’m here to blow those sweet little eardrums out.
It’s hard to believe its been a year since Scott and I joined Brandon and took over the remix responsibilities for TBE. Yet here we are a year later, a year wiser, 360 days more disinguished and more handsome than ever.
So, let’s do this.
Remix Roundup Vol. 50.

Ace Reporter is TBE alum Chris Snyder who recorded a song every day of 2010 Â (!!) and released them all for free. Much to my peasant surprise, many of them were really good. To culminate his project he has whittled his mammoth collection down and re-recorded and mastered his favorites into a series of (also free) EPs that he is slowly releasing throughout this year. The first, named after one of my favorites from the 365 Project, was the Untouched and Arrived EP. EP closer “Frankfurt” steals the show with it’s driving rhythm and ripping guitars.
Another bit of Ace Reporter goodness is his list of favorite albums of 2010, rendered in the form of five cover songs instead of the usual jpeg and blurb that us bloggers squeeze out. Catch his renditions of tracks by 2010 faves The National, Arcade Fire, Beach House, and Local Natives.

Oh 2010, what a year you were. Not only were you The Burning Ear’s first full calendar year, but you bombarded us with so much amazing music. Great albums from old favorites, fresh faces, and even genres we didn’t even knew we liked. Thanks 2010. You were awesome and we won’t forget you. Cheers to Read more
