} TBE Digest 8 – 4.30.10 [Blur, Hole, Hot Chip, LCD Soundsystem, Passion Pit, Nada Surf…]

How-dilly, ho-dilly, neighbors! I’m currently cooking up all kinds of excitement behind the scenes here at TBE so I’m not gonna stick around and chat. You know the deal, these are the jams that are more ‘newsworthy’ then ‘noteworthy’ so that you can stay up to speed on all the latest music hitting the web without reading as many damn blogs as I do. To cleanse the palette I’ve got a bundle of covers to close things out. Enjoy!

For more jams or by any of these artists use the ‘tags’ links at the bottom of the post!

♫ Blur – Fool’s Day / Record Store Day is an annual thing and it happened not too long ago. Blur released their first new track in forever and this is it. It’s a good little jam but I imagine that If I had ever loved Blur then I would be into this more.

♫ Sean Bones – Rhumba Beat /New track from our boy Sean Bones. It;s not exactly “Easy Street” but still a good addition to that summer lounging mix.

♫ Junip – Rope an Summit / Yup, that’s Jose Gonzalez’ crooning voice. When not doing his own thing he and two other guys are Junip. Perfect stuff for when you want to listen to Jose Gonzalez but don’t want to fall asleep.

♫ Napoleon – Florida / Buffetlibre are behind the fantastic remixes of Dragonette and The Antlers have put together a pretty impressive project.

Welcome to PEACE, the first music atlas in the net, coproduced by Buffetlibre and Amnesty International Catalunya. Just make your donation and download the full mp3 compilation, with 180 exclusive new songs by artists from more than 50 countries. The collected money will be used for AI’s investigation and action campaigns aimed at preventing cases of Human Rights abuses around the world. Enjoy!

I haven’t gone through all the tracks but this jam from Napoleon stood out so far. A ton of other great bands are involved. Check it out!

♫ The Gaslight Anthem – American Slang / I love me some Gaslight Anthem but this new track from their forthcoming album of the same name is not blowing me away. Sure, my 5th listen is going better than my 1st but I still have some pretty high expectations for these guys.

♫ Hole – Samantha / Speaking of high expectations. Not.

♫ LCD Soundsystem – Drunk Girls / I find all but a few of LCD Soundsystem’s songs to be pretty grating and tedious and the way James Murphy “sings” is a major factor. This 1st single off the already creamed-over new LCD Soundsystem album This Is Happening is no exception. Aside from moments on album opener “Dance Yourself Clean” I found the rest of the LP to be pretty underwhelming as well. I guess that means that if you have always loved LCD then you will like this album too. Maybe.

– COVERS –

♫ Franz Ferdinand – All My Friends (LCD Soundsystem Cover) / Although I don’t know about ‘The Best Song of 2007‘, “All My Friends” is a damn fantastic song and one of the exceptions I mentioned above. Here’s is Franz Ferdinand giving it a go. You can’t beat the original but I’m down with this.

♫ Hot Chip – She Wolf (Shakira Cover) / This Shakira jam has already provided us with one of the Best Remixes of last year and now a Hot Chip cover? Sweeeeet. It’s a low-ish quality live recording or something but still worth a listen. Or five.

♫ Nada Surf – Enjoy The Silence (Depeche Mode) / Nada Surf’s latest album is a covers collection that goes by If I Had A Hi-Fi. Leave it up to the these guys to turn “Enjoy The Silence” into a upbeat terrace-party jam. Other bands covered include Spoon, Kate Bush, and The Soft Pack. Nice.

♫ The Antlers – VCR (The xx Cover) / No surprise, this is great.

♫ Passion Pit – Dreams (The Cranberries cover) / Yeah, thats right. What a random choice, huh? I can’t really say weather this is good or not but it certainly is interesting. Not very Passion Pit-y and Michael’s voice is even higher than ususal. Anyway, interesting stuff. (This is from the recently released Deluxe Edition of Manners.)

♫ Lissie – Bad Romance (Lady GaGa Cover) / I don’t know much about this Lissie gal but this cover certainly gets her off to a good start. The last 30 seconds are especially fantastic.
