The Best Remixes of 2010… Since Then (July-Dec.)

Damn. Another great year for remixes. Whether bringing the dance heat, adding a different texture, or completely flipping a song over, we were hit with all kinds of solid sonic reworkings. No surprise to see some of TBE’s heavy hitters like RAC, Don Diablo, Bloodshy & Avant, and The Soundmen and a warm welcome to some new names that nailed their mixes to my repeat button. All of the top 6, as well as a few others, are remixes of tracks that never really caught me in their original form but now have become some of my favorite jams of the year. A whole new life was infused into them and isn’t that what a great remix is all about?

15. ♫ Sleigh Bells – AB Machines (French Horn Rebellion Remix)

14. ♫ Johnny Polygon ft Kid Cudi – Riot Song (The Soundmen Remix) / It’s official. Kid Cudi should only guest on other people’s tracks and those tracks should be remixed by The Soundmen. (further proof)

13. ♫ Bon Iver – Skinny Love (Das Kapital Rerub)

12. ♫ The Dance Party – Sasha Don’t Sleep (Pance Party Remix)

11. ♫ Everything Everything – MY KZ, UR BF (Clock Opera Remix)

10. ♫ Shy Child – Disconnected (Ocelot Remix) / Swirling. Pulsing. Bouncing. Perfect.

9. ♫ Edward Sharpe and The Magnetic Zeroes – Janglin (RAC Mix) / RAC and Ed Sharpe meet again and it’s predictably beautiful.

8. ♫ Focus – Hocus Pocus (Buffetlibre Remix) / This jam should be banned while driving. A definite in-vehicle party starter with heavy effects on the gas pedel.

7. ♫ Ra Ra Riot – Boy (RAC Mix) / Good song. Great remix.

6. ♫ Clare Maguire – The Strangest Thing (Bloodshy & Avant Version) / Dark. Passionate. Eerie. Haunting. All the best way.

5. ♫ Something a la Mode ft K. Flay – 5 AM (Pance Party Remix) / K. Flay’s swagger over these grinding and glitching beats is just undeniably infectious.

4. ♫ Coheed and Cambria – World Of Lin (Johnny Whitney Remix) / If the whole Coheed album sounded like this then they would still be one of my favorite bands. This get’s the blood going every time.

3. ♫ Pete Lawrie – All That We Keep (Don Diablo Remix) / Don Diablo takes a break from melting speakers to delicately craft another slow jam for the ages. So smooth.

2. ♫ Macklemore – Otherside feat. Fences [Ryan Lewis REMIX] / Something about this remix makes Macklemore’s lyrics pop even more, pushing his sorrow to the forefront of this haunting tale. A truly moving track.

1. ♫ Coeur de Pirate – Comme Des Enfants (Le Matos Andy Carmichael Remix) / Oooh boy, that intro gets me so excited just knowing what’s coming up! Then those angelic vocals and that throwback synth dance churn into the mix and the whole thing just takes off on it’s own. I have zero problem giving this epic track the umber 1 spot.
