[QUICKIE] The Maccabees – GIVEN TO THE WILD (w/ “Pelican”)

to have it all and still want more, one things for sure we’re all getting older

Wall Of Arms was best of 2009 but multiple spins of this leave me flat. “Pelican” is OK. “Unknown” & “Grew Up at Midnight” are semi-jams.

[Quickies are mini-reviews that can fit into a 140 character tweet. They are of albums that people already know of but perhaps are curious about our take on it. What did you think of the disc?]

I’m about as close to a Maccabees fanboy as you can be, and I unfortunately have to agree. Wall of Arms was impeccable from start to finish, and Colour It In was rough around the edges, but full of absolute tunes.
I guess I was just hoping for a big step up to the new album, but it was never going to happen. Still some great tracks on this album, and it still gets regular plays

    Good, but not great

Total agreement here. It was weird how there was little to no hype around the album on the blogs, etc. I would have expected big buzz for it after the success of Wall Of Arms. I wonder if thats cause they kinda had nothing to hype.
