So this Miami Horror album came out a year ago but I somehow missed the memo, despite having covered them 2 years ago. Oh well. Better late than never, and in the case of the Australian band’s Illumination that is definitely the case. Their stellar set at May’s Great Escape Festival put me on the hunt for more Miami Horror and since I have been solidly enjoying this album for the past few weeks I figured it was time to share with others who may have missed it. We all (should) know “Holidays” (above) from it’s epic Butcher Blades/ remix but the original is a bit calmer and more conducive to sunshine frolicking. Summer swagger! Plus great summer love adventure video!
“Moon Theory” is another choice cut, whipping squelching synths and swirling beats around my sun-soaked head until I can’t help but give in and move. Plus, on an album of guest vocals (Kimbra, M.I.A., and 3 x Alan Palomo a.k.a Neon Indian) it is nice to hear Miami Horror’s own vocals shine through. The rest of the album is solid stuff and perfect late summer listening so jump on it if you haven’t. And definitely catch them live. And also check out their music videos. Always top notch. So really, why aren’t these guys getting more love?
Oh, and check out their Facebook. I just saw it has a cover of The Church’s “Under The Milky Way. Niiiice.
