I’ll never forget when I first heard Ra Ra Riot. Their vibe was so exuberant and emotive and perfectly soundtracked that California summer. That album ended up being one of my favorites of 2008 and I’ve been patiently awaiting a follow-up ever since. “Boy” is the first taste of new Ra Ra and so far I’m pretty stoked. That twitchy bassline and bouncy percussion are just about perfect in my book. “oooh ooohs” on top of that and you’ve got yourself a jam! It’s not as grand or sweeping as some of The Rhumb Line‘s best but it’s still unmistakably Ra Ra Riot. New album, The Orchard, came out yesterday and although I’ve heard good things I haven’t dove into it yet. I want to digest this one like a great meal. I’ll check back soon with thoughts on the digestion process.
